Do Famous Athletes and Entertainers Deserve High Incomes?
Nowadays, it is not a strange phenomenon that some famous athletes and entertainersearn millions of dollars every year. Some people think this is justified considering theirgreat contributions to society. For me, giving them so much money as salary is unfair topeople in other accupat/ons.
Firstly, there are so many occupations around the world, such as doctors, teachers, accountants, and workers. Viewed as one of the occupations, entertainers or athletes arc notmuch different from the rest of them. However, an entertainer can receive 100,000 pershow, and a soccer player,will_ be paid a huge sum of money annually. ①On the other hand, most people in "ordinary professions like nurses, doctors and teachers earn only a smallfraction of the income of these "stars". If we give a careful look at these professions, we willfind that they not only require special skills and years of education but also help the peopleand the whole society. For instance, teachers disseminate knowledge and truth; doctors andnurses give patients good medical care and prolong their life. They arc much more useful, and actually more essential to our society than sports personalities. Without these ordinaryprofessions, our society would stop progressing. Their salaries should be in proportion totheir skills, education or their value to society. Therefore, although we admit that we canhave a nice show to enjoy or a wonderful match to watch with these stars, ②there is no needto give them such a big amount, This is what they should do as an entertainer or an athlete. This is their iob. And above a//, people in all occupations should be treated equally.③ Furthermore, this inequality in income does not have a positive influence on theyoung generation. If most young people know that they eaa earn that much money as anathlete or an entertainer, definitely they will go after that. As a result, they do not want todo anything other than to be an athlete or an entertainer. What's more, this.phenomenonhas an important impact on young people's values. Athletes and entertainers get money ina relatively easy way, which would drive young people to believe in a shortcut to success, although their parents and teachers have always been trying to assure them that no one canexpect success without working hard.
In conclusion, I think athletes and entertainers do not deserve high salaries beeanse their vocations are the same as others and they are just doing what they should do.
